General Most Loved/Hated Music

10 for today

My baby is a headf*ck - The Wildhearts
Caught in my shadow - The Wonderstuff
Ask - The Smiths
Sitting at home - Honeycrack
Action - Sweet
Bring a gun - James
Zero hero - Eureka Machines
Coup de grace -Miles Kane
Horses- Patti Smith
Money - The Subways

The heat is on, the time is right
It’s time for you, for you to play your game
‘Cause people are coming, everyone’s trying
Trying to be the best that they can
When they’re going for, going for gold!
Now I know that "Blackpool Rock" by George Fornby is actually about sex, I'm looking for the subliminal messages in Going for Gold. I'm worried that the "gold" that everyone is going for might not be the precious metal and maybe more to do with Henry Kelly's (RIP) bits. The heat is on and the time is right.

Really really trying to stop myself from posting "yep, that's great. Yep, that's great" after everyone's list.

Likes
I generally like most of the music by Bowie, Elvis Costello, Madness, Queen (sorry), REM and dozens more that I could list, but as one off songs go -
Copperhead Road – Steve Earl
Double Dutch – Malcolm McLaren
Dream Police – Cheap Trick
Grey Cortina – Tom Robinson Band
In a Big Country – Big Country
Thunderchild – Jeff Wayne (brings a lump to my throat every time)
Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon
and an honourable mention to my nephew who has just finished a tour of the US with mclusky – not really my thing but I can’t put in them in the dislikes pile can I.

Dislikes
Never really been keen on Michael Jackson, George Michael, Lionel Richie, Ed Sheeran, Simply Red, Wet Wet Wet and their ilk but there is a special place in hell for
All I Want for Christmas – Mariah Carey (and Wonderful Xmas by that McCartney fella)
Believe – Cher
Dry Your Eyes – The Street
Jolene – Dolly Parton
Seven Days – Craig David
I was going to put Agadoo in here but decided it didn’t qualify as music....

I cant hate Dry Your Eyes just because of this:

I love that band, especially Mclusky Do Dallas which is almost a perfect album.

That album was from their original line-up, my nephew was invited when the band reformed about ten years ago but he also fronts "The St. Pierre Snake Invasion" who play a similar brand of "uneasy listening"...

half dozen tunes that brighten my day- on the rare occasion I hear/ play them

Space Monkeys - Sugar cane

Stone Foundation - that's the way I want to live my life

YY28 - going out

Clint Boon Experience - Do what you do ( earworm song)

Inter - Happy ending

Twister - Its a dogs life

OK apologies in advance.... I love music and go to lots of live gigs, but seem to be far less 'cool" than most on here!!

Shine on You Crazy Diamond- Pink Floyd
Like a Hurricane- Neil Young
In My Life - The Beatles
Pink Moon- Nick Drake
Caroline- Arlo Parks
Words in My Head- Steve Mason
Catch The Sun - Doves ( following the theme)
Back to Black- Amy Winehouse
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Cocaine- John Martyn

Dislikes

People who don't play their own music.
At least Taylor Swift writes her own music ( I tried listening to a couple of her albums, but didn't like it- never would criticise her though because it is real music)

Hey that's a pretty cool lineup of classics - with Arlo Parks to bring things up to date. I like Doves too, they have a sort of wistfulness that raises them above the standard blokey crowd.

I’ve got diverse tastes :)
Bach Goldberg variations
Mahler 1st symphony
Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony
Andre Previn On the Street where you live
Art Garfunkel Shine on Me
Deep Purple Child in Time
Kanchelli 6th symphony
Sex Pistols no feelings
Stone roses I am the resurrection
Budgie homicidal suicidal

I try to like everything - more fun that way - but I struggle with anything by the smiths, and wind of change by the Scorpions.

I am stuck in the middle of Craig David, Will Young and Genesis, a place nobody has ever wanted to be.
